Daisy Award: Nominate a Nurse

Johnny Trafecanty, RN - Mammoth Hospital's newest DAISY Nurse

2025 DAISY Award Winner: Johnny Trafecanty, RN

DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses (Annual)

The  DAISY Award  is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers. It is a way to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide.

The DAISY Award was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. When making your submission think about:

  • How did this nurse make a special connection with a patient or their family?
  • Describe a situation where this nurse went above and beyond for a patient or their family.
  • Share an example where exemplary compassion was demonstrated for a patient or their family.

Mammoth Hospital is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor annually. We encourage you to nominate a nurse from the Hospital, the Clinic, or both using the form below.

Johnny’s Winning Nominations

"I am honored to nominate Johnny for this award in recognition of the extraordinary care and compassion he provided to my son and me during a difficult night in the emergency room. From the moment we arrived after a long six-hour drive, he went above and beyond to ensure that both my son and I felt supported. Even though visiting hours had ended, he made sure I had the opportunity to see my son, recognizing the importance of that moment for our family."

"Throughout the night, he checked on me multiple times, offering not only reassurance but genuine kindness—asking if I needed anything, ensuring I was comfortable, and even offering to bring me tea. His thoughtfulness extended beyond physical care; he took the time to engage with my son, showing interest in his future career aspirations and making him feel seen and valued as a person, not just as a patient. RN Johnny demonstrated a deep understanding of both the obvious and subtle needs of patients and their loved ones. His energy and passion for patient care were evident in every interaction, and he created an environment of comfort, compassion, and hope during what was one of the most stressful nights of our lives. He embodies everything this award stands for—going beyond expectations, offering comfort in meaningful ways, and making a lasting impact on the families he cares for. I cannot express enough gratitude for his kindness and dedication. He truly made a difference, and I wholeheartedly believe he deserves to be recognized for the exceptional nurse that he is."

"Johnny was wonderful to work with. He took care of my dad’s every need, not only with professionalism, but with compassion. He explained every procedure that was done and was very concise and timely with his communications. We appreciated him as well as his constituents."
