Biography

Dr. Koehler is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, and moved to Mammoth in 2013 from Washington state where he practiced medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. At Virginia Mason he specialized in general and thoracic surgery with expertise in cancer surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from The University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, and medical degree at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Koehler completed his residency at the University of Utah and fellowship in thoracic surgery in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Koehler has been active in clinical research and surgical education and has published articles on paraoesophageal hernias, cancer treatment and staging, as well as ways to minimize pain following surgery.

Dr. Koehler moved to Mammoth Lakes in 2013 and enjoys skiing, climbing, and mountain biking in the Sierras. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for  Mammoth Medical Missions  and was instrumental in the group's relief efforts in response to Super-Typhoon Haiyan.
