Investment in Community Mental Health

Teaching Mental Health at Mammoth Elementary School

Thanks to philanthropic support, Mammoth Hospital launched a group-based mental health program in 2025 to strengthen the emotional well-being of children, adults, and families across our community. Designed by psychologist Chelsea Feller in collaboration with Jen McMahon of Mammoth Hospital’s Elevate Program, the initiative focused on building emotional regulation and resilience using evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy.

Elementary-aged children participated in small, supportive group sessions that introduced lifelong coping skills through creative, hands-on activities. Tools such as calming “glitter jars” and “Coping Skills Superheroes” helped children better understand their emotions, build confidence, and feel safe expressing themselves—reaching students who may not otherwise have access to structured mental health support.

The program’s early success quickly inspired expansion. With Renown Health’s seed funding, the model was adapted for adults later in 2025 and has since grown into the STEP (Support to Empower Peers) program, now offered weekly through Elevate.

This collaborative community effort demonstrates how philanthropy fuels innovation, strengthens partnerships, and creates lasting pathways to improved mental health outcomes.
