Nancy Akalin, Ph.D.,earned her undergraduate degree from University of Nevada, Reno and her doctorate from Washington State University. She completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the UCSD School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Akalin is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 12 years experience as a provider and program director at UCSD. She spent most of her career working in medical settings, including primary care. Dr. Akalin works with individuals seeking to make behavior changes for a healthier lifestyle and is comfortable treating patients with severe psychiatric conditions. Depression, anxiety and relationship issues are often common presenting problems. Dr. Akalin uses cognitive-behavioral techniques and interpersonal approaches, with a style that is empathic, practical and straightforward. Dr. Akalin works with individuals, couples and families.

Murat Akalin,MD,MPH, earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, his Masters in Public Health from Columbia University, and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Akalin has an MD in psychiatry and family medicine. A family doctor, with special training in psychiatry, Dr. Akalin will be in the clinic providing psychiatric care two days per week and family medicine two days per week. He will also be taking call and doing inpatient care along with the other family doctors. Dr. Akalin enjoys working with patients with substance abuse problems, chronic mental illness, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Although Dr. Akalin is not a child psychiatrist, he has experience working with children. Dr. Akalin is also comfortable working in Spanish.
