Festival of Trees
A Magical Night - November 30, 2005
It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas when over 200 guests entered the Mountain
Conference Center for the second annual Festival of Trees on Saturday, 11/25/05 hosted
by the Healthcare Trust of Mammoth Lakes and the Gull Lake Marina. Thirteen trees
were showcased fully designed around themes; many were accompanied with gifts to go
with the trees’ themes. A silent auction hosted wreaths, gingerbread houses, wine and
travel packages in addition to spa and celebrity gifts. Proceeds netted $67,000; a great
jump start for the hospital’s $300,000 full field digital mammography initiative.
Gary Myers, hospital CEO, presented breast cancer facts and statistics regarding the fight
against breast cancer and early detection. Gail Jacobs, local breast cancer survivor,
presented her personal story with her fight and victory with mammogram detection. Yuri
Parisky, MD, Senior Mammographer at USC/Norris Cancer Center, addressed the
importance of getting an annual mammogram in addition to the current digital
technology.
Full field digital mammography has gained FDA approval for the screening and diagnosis
of breast cancer, and touted to be the “single biggest advance in mammography in 30
years.” Full field digital mammography allows for faster acquisition, fewer total
exposures, and less patient discomfort. Early detection of breast cancer greatly increases
the chance for survival. Currently, Mammoth residents travel out of the area to receive
mammography screening as it is not available locally.
It was truly a magical evening as the spirit of giving continued. A couple of trees were
donated by top bidders to local community efforts. The McDonald’s tree was donated by
the Mammoth Radiology Group to a family in Lee Vining that recently lost their home to
a fire; it is being housed at the Lee Vining 5th and 6th grade classroom as the family’s
temporary living quarters are too small. The top bidders for the tree “Think Pink”
donated their tree to a breast cancer patient. This tree was designed around the hospital’s
mammography initiative focusing on angels representing lives that have been saved
through mammography and early detection. Three additional trees were donated back to
the hospital in which they are being displayed in the various lobbies for the entire
community to enjoy. A big thank you to all who volunteered, to the tree designers, and to
all who sponsored this event. Special thanks to the Mammoth High School Choir, Eric
Stovesand, Adrienne Regan, Daniel Hansen, and Brent Allen.

A Magical Night - November 26, 2005
Kick off the holiday season with the second annual Festival of Trees gala dinner and live auction of elaborately decorated themed trees and gifts. This most-talked-about event of the year sponsored by the Healthcare Trust of Mammoth Lakes and the Gull Lake Marina will take place during Thanksgiving week on Saturday evening, 11/26th in the Old Gondola Room at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. Seven-foot noble fir trees from Oregon will be designed by local volunteers. Here’s a sneak peek of our themed trees:

Prior to the event, a select few artificial themed trees will be on display in local businesses throughout town, such as McDonald’s and Mail Boxes, etc., for the entire community to enjoy and to bid on silently (winners of these trees will be announced at the event). A silent auction at the event will host beautifully hand-crafted wreaths and gingerbread houses, in addition to other spectacular gift packages that include wine, celebrity items, and much more.

 Our goal is to raise $75,000 to help fund a $300,000 full field digital mammography system for Mammoth Hospital.  Tickets are $100 each that include a buffet dinner and a magical night to remember. Trees will be delivered locally; if your tree is not for local delivery, please consider donating it to a local cause for the entire community to enjoy.

Festival of Trees Proceeds Supports ER Department -

department manager for Mammoth Hospital accepts $50,000 from the Healthcare
Trust of Mammoth Lakes Festival of Trees event coordinator, Lori Ciccarelli,
hospital Community Relations Director. This money will furnish two emergency
department critical care suites for the hospital’s new expansion project. This
photo was taken in front of the “Tree of Life” that was auctioned off for $4,200
and was donated back to the hospital for the entire community to enjoy. This
tree resided in the clinics lobby area during the holidays for the patients to

“Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it
Snow.” The night was magical. The major snow storm didn’t discourage many. The
holiday spirit filled the air on Saturday, 11/27th, at Mammoth
Hospital’s first annual Festival of Trees gala dinner.
A “Charles Dickens” doorman
greeted guests as holiday carols echoed through the winding staircase leading to
whimsical harp music. A red carpet enticed those to enter what was to be the
most talked about event of the year. The perimeter of the room was lined with
nine enchanting noble fir Christmas trees dripping with elegance. Themed gifts
accompanied each tree for an added bonus for those who despise the holiday
shopping rush. This evening was also the inaugural event of the new hospital
foundation, The Healthcare Trust of Mammoth Lakes (HTML). The buzz around town
is that community members can’t wait for next year’s event; the talk is that it
will get more popular with each passing year.

Handcrafted wreaths and gingerbread houses were on display for silent auction. Spectators participated in a live auction bidding on these holiday trees for $3,000-$5,000 each. “We are ecstatic that proceeds of this event totaled a little over $50,000 and will equip two of the emergency department’s critical care suites for the hospital’s expansion project,” says Gary Myers, Mammoth Hospital Chief Executive Officer.
